Part-Time | Approximately 10–12 hours per week to start

About Butterhouse Bakeshop

Butterhouse Bakeshop is a growing artisan bakery in Derby, Kansas, focused on handcrafted baked goods made with thoughtfully selected, premium ingredients. We produce cookies, scones, muffins, granola, beverages, and other specialty products for local farmers markets and wholesale customers.

We're looking for a dependable and capable Bakery Production Associate who can learn our production systems and become an important part of our growing bakery.

About the Position

This position is designed for someone who wants more responsibility than a traditional bakery assistant role.

You'll initially work directly with the owner while learning Butterhouse recipes, baking methods, quality standards, production schedules, and kitchen procedures. Once trained, you'll be responsible for completing assigned bakery production independently and consistently, with minimal supervision.

Our goal is to find someone we can trust to come into the kitchen, review the day's production list, and confidently complete the work according to Butterhouse standards.

The ideal candidate is dependable, coachable, and trainable, but also independent, organized, efficient, and comfortable taking ownership of their work.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cookies, scones, muffins, granola, and other Butterhouse products according to established recipes and production procedures
  • Accurately weigh and measure ingredients
  • Mix doughs and batters and portion, shape, scoop, and prepare products for baking or freezing
  • Operate bakery equipment and ovens safely and consistently
  • Manage multiple products and baking schedules during a production shift
  • Monitor product quality throughout the baking process
  • Package, seal, and label finished products
  • Prepare finished products for wholesale deliveries and farmers markets
  • Follow weekly production lists and complete assigned production independently after training
  • Maintain organized ingredient, freezer, and production areas
  • Monitor ingredient and packaging inventory and communicate when supplies are running low
  • Wash dishes, pans, utensils, and production equipment
  • Clean and sanitize work surfaces and maintain a clean, food-safe kitchen
  • Follow established recipes, procedures, food-safety practices, and Butterhouse quality standards

What We're Looking For

  • At least one year of bakery, baking, restaurant, commercial kitchen, or relevant food-production experience required
  • Coachable and receptive to instruction, feedback, and new methods
  • Able to learn and consistently reproduce established recipes
  • Comfortable taking responsibility for production after completing training
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Organized and able to prioritize multiple production tasks
  • Able to work efficiently while maintaining quality
  • Able to follow written recipes, production lists, and procedures accurately
  • Takes initiative and can recognize what needs to be done without constant direction
  • Comfortable performing repetitive production tasks
  • Able to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Dependable transportation to our Derby production kitchen

Schedule

This is a part-time position of approximately 10–12 hours per week to start, with the potential for additional hours as Butterhouse grows.

Must be available Mondays and Fridays, as these are key production days for the bakery.

Additional production hours during the week offer greater scheduling flexibility and may vary depending on wholesale orders, farmers market needs, and seasonal production.

Production is generally scheduled during daytime and afternoon hours. We do not require overnight or very early-morning bakery shifts.

Compensation

$13–$15 per hour, depending on experience.

Growth Opportunity

We're looking for someone who can grow with Butterhouse.

This position will begin with hands-on training alongside the owner. As you demonstrate consistency and proficiency with our recipes and processes, the goal is for you to work independently on bakery production.

As Butterhouse continues to grow, there will be opportunities for additional hours and expanded production responsibilities.

The Person Who Will Thrive Here

You'll likely enjoy this role if you take pride in doing things correctly and consistently, enjoy working with your hands, and like the satisfaction of completing a production list independently.

Because we're a small team, reliability, communication, attention to detail, ownership, and willingness to learn are essential.

We're looking for someone who doesn't need to be managed every step of the way. We will provide training, recipes, procedures, and clear expectations; in return, we're looking for someone who can learn those systems and ultimately take ownership of getting the day's production completed.

If you have baking or food-production experience and are looking for flexible part-time work with meaningful responsibility and room to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
