A Tradition of Hospitality
Butterhouse was born from a lifetime of gathering around tables where food, conversation, and care brought people together.
The spirit behind Butterhouse was shaped long before the first cookie was baked.
My grandparents were immigrants from Lebanon who eventually made their home in Guadalajara, Mexico. My grandmother, Shams Abuali, had a remarkable gift for hospitality.
Every day at noon, friends and family would gather at her home. They sat together on her terrace, drinking Turkish coffee, sharing stories, laughter, and sometimes worries. People arrived as friends and left feeling like family.
Her home was always full — not just with relatives, but with an extended circle of people who cared for one another.
There was a feeling there that I have carried with me ever since: a sense of belonging.
